I just saw on Facebook that A vehicle pulled out in front of Pat yesterday. He t-boned the vehicle. By what I understood he is still in the hospital in surgery. Someone has been messaging me and I believe he has a broken femur, both jaws broke, fractured back and fractured skull.
Make sure you keep him in your prayers and that everything goes well!

Pat get to feeling better buddy!!

Hello guys, Sorry for the delayed post here in the forum. Apparently i didn't have my board info saved in my cell and that's all i had in the hospital.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, it is helping me drudge through all this crap and look at the positive sides. I'm still alive, and my Son was not with me, So he is ok. well the story from Thursday goes like this....

I went to visit an friend who lives about 6 miles from me in the next town west.
I rode over there and stayed for a while, and i noticed it starting to get dark so i went ahead and called it a night and rode home. (once the sun goes down so does the temp.) it was already in the 30's anyway. While riding home i passed my buddy's wife and going. Looking down to the dash it was 36deg. The speed limit was 55 and i was cruising at a steady 50 with only a small handful of other traffic on the road. Then i was approaching an intersection that had no yield or stop signs for east/west traffic. You only had to stop and yield if you were traveling north or south. I was traveling west. A jeep Cherokee was traveling east. Apparently the Jeep was in a hurry or something because the driver attempted to turn left on the south bound road right in front of me. The driver did this so fast i had no time for a reaction or even time to think. I made immediate impact with the passenger side of the jeep and i was knocked unconscious. The driver stopped, and some people came out of their houses who lived close and heard the carnage. i was told i was left laying on the ground face down for about 20 minutes until medics arrived. People who were present thought i was dead and were afraid if i was not dead what would happen because i did have personal on my side since i am a law abiding citizen. :) When medics arrived apparently i moved one of my legs and they rushed to me and got me taken care of. I woke up the next morning in the hospital to more pain than i have felt in a long time.

After 10 or more CT scans, God knows how many X-Rays, A few Surgery's, i was finally released to go home and rest on Monday.
My diagnosis was...
A Broken Scapula (Right Shoulder Blade)
A Broken Femur (Left)
A Lesion in my right fore arm roughly 2"x1.5" (no clue what it came from)
Multiple skull fractures
Bleeding and fluid on the brain
and a concussion.

I will post up a few pics of the bike and other stuff just so you have an idea of what im looking at.

I am open to any and all advise as well.. Thanks
Patrick

Also, on bike status... Motor has no oil, I can t get down on the ground to inspect where it all went out of, but the sight glass is dry if i lean it to the right.
Also coolant is dry also, front rim popped the rad. Front brakes are toast, front wheel is toast, Nose piece is not existant, most of front is non existant. Gastank back is in good shape. Only 1 primary tube bent on exhaust. The rest are in decent shape.

My Son and family are really trying to pressure me not to get back on 2 wheels again... Im actually thinking about agreeing with them if i can get a 1441 T-Rex instead.... :)

If i can give advice to anyone who rides out on the street.
Please wear your gear and be as alert as humanly possible. No one who drives cars or trucks pays any attention to you!
It is really sad it has gotten to the point that everyone takes travel for granted.
Since my accident i have had 2 surgery's and i am lucky to be able to drive a newer vehicle i purchased (automatic). (my old truck was an S-10 5spd, and i still cant put any weight on my left leg). In the minimal time i am back to driving i have seen 2 other bikers almost get hit due to the negligence of other drivers.
The feeling and freedom you have on 2 wheels is unmatched, noting can compare to it. I miss it every day that goes by. I see other riders out on the street doing stupid crap like they are invincible and all i do is look down at my left leg and shake my head. Some people chose to learn the hard way, and some people can actually stop and think about things and realize the potential outcome. To those of you who ride responsibly thank you! To those of you who decide to cut traffic, ride 60+ in a 30mph zone and ride up on one in rural areas.... I surely hope you learn your lesson in an easier way than the crap that i am going through right now.
If you want food for thought on some of the crap i am going through let me give you a few details to think about.
I have trouble opening any doors by my self,
It huts when i go to sit down or get up off of the toilet,
I cant sleep for more than a few hours due to pain in my left leg,
I cant carry anything more than a few feet and sometimes a few feet isn't even an option,
Like my dinner plate, If i make my plate in the kitchen i have to have someone else carry it to the table because i cant,
Getting into and out of the shower takes massive effort and planning and even sometimes help,
If you want to go shopping and buy your self a new pair of jeans or anything for that matter you better hope the handicapped person before you plugged in the little electric cart at the store. If they didn't and the battery is dead you will probably have to give up and return home, Or drudge through the pain and go look for what you wanted.

Please do not take the little things in life for granted, So many of us do.
When you stop and realize what you have lost and how hard you are working to get it back you will have a new respect for people and the little things in life.

To everyone who has held a door open for someone who needed it, To everyone who has picked something off the top shelf because someone couldn't reach, to everyone who has stopped their daily activities to give someone a helping hand i say Thank YOU!!

Please i hope to god that no one on here has to go through the pain and crap that i have gone through and the road i have ahead of me right now. I know i will make this journey and i will be a stronger person because of it. But let me take this crap and give someone else something to think about and hopefully deter more crap from happening to someone.

Patrick

Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery.

It sucks that of all the people riding recklessly and irresponsibly something like this happens to someone obeying all laws and minding their own business. Thank God you were wearing all your gear or you wouldn't be here writing about it.

Again, Good Luck on your road to recovery.

Patrick,

Went through something simular to you last year (though not quite as bad) Hang in there, it will get better, it might be a long road, but you will get there, I was really upset when this kady pulled out in front of me a did what she did to me, it could have been much worse, after a while, I felt I was really lucky to be alive, and being able to do some things, I know its a pain, I had to have my wife shower me for a long time, help me even get out of the bed in the morning, time will heal, hope things go better for you soon.

Take care,

car-abuser

Dude. You've just got to keep on keepin on. We all know it ain't if but when. Dangers of the street. I took a 10 yr. break after my 2nd time getting whacked on the street. Had kids at home and all that. Woke up one morning and realized I was 50 yrs. old and all the kids were gone. Went back to riding. Ain't no shame in doing what's right for your family.
Heal Well and fast my man,do what your heart tells you and Listen to the Doc's. There will be more bikes, don't rush sh*t. lt8r.

Oh yeah,if you do decide to hang up the spurs for a while, reach and grab that trashed top tree off the shelf and remember the pain,Then, listen to your kids raising hell in the house,it'll be easier. ;-)

Thanks guys, I have had a lot of time to think things over and look at the other side of the coin.
I just felt like speaking my mind and trying to pass on the thoughts.

I am thankful to be alive, (50mph to zero in 10 feet hurts a little) and I am thankful for every day I am able to wake up and spend time with my son and family.
2 surgeries down so far and hopefully therapy will start again here soon so I can get back on the road to recovery and get around on my own again.

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers, they are greatly appreciated!

Patrick

I really hope hings get better for bro. I'm do terribly sorry u had to pay this price for absolute stupidity. I think about it every time I ride. I hate intersections and always blow my horn if I feel there's a bad vibe in the intersection. It' s just not worth it to take other drivers for granted. Because u just never know......

It's funny that I feel safer on the interstate doing 100mph than I do traveling 30mph in the city. I actually feel even safer at 120mph. It's just not legal.

I hope you keep ur spirit high! It'll get better!! The body is amazing! It can and will heal.

TH1RT3EN,

Brother very happy you are alive! Prayers sent for a full and smooth recovery!

I have been turned in to road kill a few times by cars/trucks as well. And have suffered very similar and same injuries. The best advice I can give you for the jurney ahead to recovery is. Diet, diet, diet. Nutrition is going to be a very major key in healing. Stay as active as you can and the time will pass a lot quicker. And follow the physical theropy to the T.

If you ever want to chat, give me a shout, 616-325-5571

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate it!

I will try to keep my head as high as i can and my attitude positive. I know the journey can only get better.

Someone needs to take a scenic ride through a nice hilly area and snap some pics, I would be riding down in Brown County state park right now if my situation was different. I really miss the scenic and relaxing part of riding right now... LOL

In due time, i know...

Very well said Pat, I think most of the people on this forum understand and accept the risks associated with riding a motorcycle on the street but we also enjoy it tremendously so we make the choice. Of course I personally try to ride as defensively as possible and try to make all the right decisions when it counts. I also think that when its your time, its your time. I wish you a speedy recovery.
