Yes. gen 1 (06-11) rev 1(06/07) or rev 2(08-11) will directly swap to any 06-11 frame. However, some parts are not interchangeable between rev 1 and 2.

1 .. you have to drill the head for the cam sensor , the gen 1 uses a cam sensor while the Gen 2 doesn't ..Its not a hard fix ..The gen 2 cams have the cam sensor pickup on the cams , so you don't not need to swap cams...

2.. you have to use the gen 1 front sprocket cover to make you speedo work ..

3.. you have to make a adapter for the water temp sensor

You can use gen 1 wiring and gen 1 TBs if you do the 3 things listed above ..

Yes. The rev 2 gen 1 engine has improved pistons, rods, crank, transmission input shaft flange plate and some of the trans gears are wider profile... same ratios. I think the rev 2 shifts a little more solid feeling, IMO. The Gen 2 engine shares the same upgrades as the gen 1 rev 2 motor plus has a slightly taller 1st gear, changed trans input shaft to accommodate a different clutch basket which adds a slipper clutch and is clearanced for a longer stroked crank. Other improvements to the Gen 2, rod bearings, oiling, etc. I am sure there are more.

If you are after as little work and quickest swap as possible, find a Gen 1 rev 1 or 2 engine with the preferred choice being the rev 2 if you can, to get the upgraded internals. Both are direct drop in and go providing you use your existing TBs, ECU harness etc. If you are after the best performance option, get yourself a Gen 2 lump and be prepared to do the stuff SmokinZX14 has outlined.

from 2008 motorcycle.com "The mega-Ninja’s new cylinder head is the biggest mechanical change. Revised intake porting is teamed with 20% larger secondary air ports for a less restrictive passage into the exhaust. A new air-switching valve is able to handle a bit more flow. The sub-throttle injectors were tweaked to provide a wider spray angle for improved atomization, part of what boosts the lower-end and midrange power. A new ECU monitors and controls the electronics, offering revised fuel and ignition mapping." “Enhance the bottom-end,” said Kawi Product Manager Karl Edmondson at the event. “That was the whole goal.” In addition to more low-end and midrange power, Kawi claims to have whipped up three extra ponies up top, now a claimed 190 horsepower at the crankshaft. Peak torque of 113.5 ft-lbs is reached at 7500 rpm.

on Zx 14 part #'s for gen 1
the piston is different pn from 2007 and 2011 (same rings)
the rods are different PN but they interchange as they are all superseded
The cylinder head is different pn -
trans - shift fork have different pn but all superseded to the same PN
some gears have different PN's - too many to chk .
and those funny 3 neutral finder balls that I used to take out of my KZ dragbikes.

unrelated? - different fuel pump pn

I have been calling gen 2 the ZX14R 2012 and up

I have 2 ZX14s a black 2007 and a red 2006.

The 2006 has ported head, valve springs, JE pistons, procut trans etc, for drag racing. But chassis is not that good for racing. Just extensions. I bought that bike for motor mods to plug into my 2007 with better chassis mods - 72" mcIntosh arm etc.

I was going to keep my bone stock 2007 motor with 8k miles Then plug in the 2006 race motor in the my black bike and spray it harder. I want to run crazy 8's

So the 2006 needs a motor so I can sell the bike as a street bike. I scored a 2011 motor. Now I am thinking I should keep the 2011 motor and move the 2007 motor in 2006 bike. I didn't know the 08 and up were noticeably different.

Motor in bike and running. Had to swap gear selector to 2006 version to eliminate code.

I did notice that 2008 and up cams are different part number - can anyone verify if they are different specs?
