Hi all

it is come time to get my zx14r its first service. I would like to stick with mineral oil for this service and change to semi-synthetic at 6000ks (2nd service).

Do you guys recommend this?

Reason for this is my Super Blackbird was put on fully synthetic at first service and it started to vibrate after that.

I was thinking of putting Motul oil in. Any other suggestions?

I personally would do the first oil change with regular oil, and would have done it long before 6k, my reason would be to flush out that factory oil, after 200 miles do another oil change to the synthetic oil of your choice, Motul is great oil. I also would recommend doing this yourself, if you think you can't www.zx1441r.com can lead you through every step, you will know the service was done and know it was done right.. :bigthumb:

This is the first service the 1000klm one.

going to get dealer to do the services while bike is under warranty, however I will supply the oil if they don't use what I want in bike.

Cheers

Changed mine at 200, 1000,3500. Oil is one of those things everyone has different feelings on. Spectro, Mobil, Royal Purple are my favorites for no other reason than I have used them all for years and none of them hves ever let me down.

Not telling you what to do, but if the dealer is charging you a lot, you can do the oil change yourself even when it's under warranty, I just used the kawasaki oil filter, as for oil, if you do let the dealer do it, the regular dino kawasaki oil is fine , other oils to use for first change is rotella dino oil, I changed mine at 100 miles and just used some castrol 10/40 dino motorcycle oil because I had some laying around, then at 600 and until around 3300 I used rotella dino, then after 3300 went to Motul 7100 full synthetic, I wouldnt be in any hurry to go full synthetic on a street bike though, just change the oil a little sooner if you use dino oil instead of synthetic.

Finally, you CAN use any NON- energy conserving car oil that is in your weight range, hope this helps

I've been using Allison oil from Brock's since the first oil change on the 14. Makes power. Lasts long. Protects well. I put in the recommended Petron additive from them as well at every oil change.

I've been using the Alysin oil as well since new but it is a oil that requires frequent changes, no more thank 3k miles which is what i do anyways.
I have been sending my oil to get analyzed and i'm working on mixing some different types of oils to get the ZDDP levels a bit higher, my first and current test is with 2 quarts of mobil 1 10w-40 and the rest with the Alysin 0w-20 i'll be sending out the oil analysis soon as i get close to 3k and see what it comes up with.
Here is an article sportbikerider did on different types of oils and has alot of useful information, make sure you read both parts.

I asked the dealer and they said they use Motul 3000 which is a mineral oil and then change to synthetic after 6000klms

If you experience ANY downshifting problems especially 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st go to any good FULL synthetic. Dealer here in Indy says of Mobile 1 synthetic if even 1%of the content is synthetic it can be called such.Try any listed above. Have had zero down shifting errors since changed to full synthetic. However, a local dealer/25 year drag racer of both Busa and Kawasaki says the is a small problem with the current zx14r shifting petals design causing a bit of a downshifting error from 2nd to 1st. Full synthetic solved my ONLY irritating zx14r problem in 17000 miles.

I've owned 2 zx14-r's since 2012 and have never had 1 problem downshifting from 2nd to 1st, or any other gear for that matter. Your dealer says it's the "design" causing the problem then how does oil solve the design of the petals problem?

Problem downshifting with synthetic better but still hangs up if shifting "quickl"from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to first. This may not be typical but was a consistent problem before going full synthetic on my bike. I have tried downshifting agressivly and quickly as stated and sometimes hangs up sometime not.

Thanks for the input. Bike seems to be shifting more consistently as miles accumulate. At 17500 it seems to have fewer hang ups when down shifting in the lower gears. I am not the racer type that seems to pervade this site and may need to further adjust my techniques. I have been riding for 50 odd years and this is the only bike that has a downshifting issue. I swear by all things Holy that dat bitch would aways hang up from 2nd to first if shifted quickly. Full synthetic has solved about 95% of the errors not perfect as stated in past blogs.
Again wee. Thanks as always for your Input. Why is it my remarks in particular seem to catch your eye? You are very analytical. Nice to get your feedback.

Quick shifting question since the preceding posts covered the oil part. Do you match rev's (blip the throttle) on your downshifts? I ask because I always do and have no downshift issues in 41K miles using Mobil 1 motorcycle 10w-40. Just curious. Good luck.

I would stick with Kawasaki 10-40 oil until next service and then go synthetic. I'm a big fan of Amsoil.
