Got the Vmax home today .. Runs like ass ... Pulled a few things apart and found one coil wire just laying next to the coil ... So my old friend Ryan was riding it round all this time running on 3 holes .. Vboost didn't seem to work either , could be the one dead hole making it feel that way .. I will retest it with all holes hitting in the AM ... Someone rebuilt the carbs but the seem way out of adjustment .. Idle will not go lower than 1500 even with the idle screw all the way out .. Everything seems to work but the head light and gas gauge .. Paints good but needs a good buffing and wax job .. Front brakes ? what front brakes ? I can't believe his was riding this bike with no front brakes !! Both fork seals are blown , no biggie , i was going to rebuild them anyway along the the brakes .. 1770 miles on the bike , but it has lot rot from setting so many years .. Going to have to get a rear fender because the tabs that should hold the tail light are broken off .. That is why they wire tied the tail light to the sissy bar .. It said on the frame tag built 10 of 1985 , so i guess it's an 1985 .. I never saw an 85 with this dark red before , my 85 was bright red .. Did they make more than one color in 85 ? I didn't think they did ...It doesn't have a repaint , its factory paint ..

Anyway she need some love but for the 1500 bucks i paid for her i guess it ok ...

Now the big question is should i leave it stone stock or should i do the normal mods like , pipe , jet kit , ect ... Nothing to far out there but just add a bit of get up and go stuff .. Or should i go hog wild and trick it out .. I have seen some pretty bad asses Vmax out there and i like them .. Hummmmmmm ... The 85 is the first year and mostlikely the most collectable of all years ..I guess either way it will still be worth a ton more than i put in it...

That is a 1986 color and 1986 side panels. I couldn't see the rear wheel clearly, but it looks like a 1986. I don't think 10/85 means it is a 1985 since sometimes they produce the next years model at the end of the year. I would investigate the VIN to be sure.

Congrats on the Max Its all up to you stock or not. I was gonna put my 85 back all stock until I let my girlfriend ride it. Now I just call it hers. I have a normal back seat here & some shifters & a few other parts laying around if needed. Being 10/85 its probably an 86 deffinately an 86 color. It also does not have the right foot pegs or back wheel for an 85. I know I have several 85 wheels around & maybe pegs to if you like the 85 stuff better.

Congratulations Lee, I am sure you will enjoy your new addition to the garage. Look at your vin, count to the 10th digit from the beginning and that will tell you your year. :vroom:

Sure it is not an "F"? Should be an F or G ( 1985 and 1986 ) ;)

Your vin should look something like this jya2wee08naxxxxxx
