Wanted to pass along some info on the latest sport touring tire: Michelin Pilot Road 4.

The Pilot Road 4's are similar to the 3's, in that they are heavily focused on wet weather handling and grip. The biggest improvement, is a claimed 20% greater tire life. The Pilot Road 3's were fairly impressive as it was, so 20% more tire life on the Pilot Road 4's sounds fantastic.

The Michelin Pilot Road 4 is going to be available in 3 different versions:

Standard, for all around sport touring use.

GT, which offers a stiffer casing for heavier bikes, riding two up with luggage, etc. These are going to be the standard issue tire for the BMW R1200 RT.

Trail, which is NOT an off-road tire, but a tire designed to be used on trail bikes that are ridden 100% on the road. The main difference in the trail version is the compounds are softer in the rear.

That front tire looks scary to me.

I do not like the horizontal lines cut across it.

The back looks pretty good though!

Follow-up - I've been getting 10,000 to 12,000 miles per rear on these on the highway with few stops and starts. 5000-6000 when beating the $#^% out of them and hot braking into turns and accelerating hard out. And sticky as glue. I'd do track days on them.

BEST TIRE EVER MADE WITH NO CLOSE SECOND, NOT EVEN ANOTHER MICHELIN Image

I just wore out a sert

@ 6500 miles

performed flawlessly

but i just bought a set of roadsmarts for less than 2/3 the cost of the PR4s

I got @6000 out of a set of them before and they also performed just fine

guess the PR4s are just too popular to go on sale; Like the Pirelli Angels.

Nice to have such a large selection of incredibly good rubber

Yes sir. I'll pay a few dollahs extra for the PR4s anyday. Competition is good for us all :bigthumb:
